Hobbies & Experiences

This page talks about my favorite hobby of video games and how my experience from doing Japanese speech contests have helped me train and learn things about myself, and develop skills.

Video Games

Single Player Games

The picture to the right is one of my favorite single player games called Persona 5 Royal. Games like this have helped me learn more about Japanese and Japan culture, as this is a Japanese game with the story based in Japan. It is also a turned-based strategy game, so this game has helped developed my critical thinking and strategy skills, as I have to prepare and think during the fights in order to be able to beat the bosses in the game.

Multiplayer Games

The picture to the right is one of my favorite multiplayer games that I have played called Fortnite. I played this competitively during high school, and still play now with my friends. This game helped me develop many skills. When I was playing competitively me and my team at one point were top 33 in North America. This required very hard work and dedication to become this good. Also great teamwork and communication skills to work together and perform well. The game in general  also developed my ability to have fast reactions and be able to adapt to many different situations. Lastly I have been to an in person tournament and game convention, which this allowed me to develop social skills as I was talking to many people during my time there.

Experiences

Japanese Speech Contests

I have participated in multiple class Japanese speech contests, and attended multiple Clemson speech contest and listened to others compete in these contests. Participating in the class Japanese speech contests helped me in public speaking in Japanese, as I had to give a speech in front of my classmates. Listening to the Clemson speech contest helped widen my understanding of Japanese as I listened to multiple different topics that I have no heard in Japanese before, so this allowed me to further my learning. This also gave me motivation when I was beginning to study Japanese as at these speech contest I was able to hear contestants that had much better Japanese language skills than me, so it gave me motivation to study hard and become like them one day.
